Arena Driving

Arena Driving is a competition that can take place in an area as small as 20x50m. It consists of a dressage test, 10 or more cones and 2 Marathon type Obstacles.

The dressage test is done first by all competitors, then the cones course is set. After all have driven that, two obstacles are set in the arena. All drive the course. Then the letters are reset and they are driven again.

Very low key, no presentation. You must use the same vehicle for all phases. This event is intended to introduce pleasure drivers and others to the fundamentals and fun of Combined Driving Events (CDE's). The dress code is informal and turnout is not scored, encouraging competitors to relax and focus on learning and practice.

Levels: Novice and Open

Novice level is designed for beginning drivers who are interested in learning more about Combined Driving, but have not successfully completed an entire Combined Driving Event or Driving Trial. This level is also suitable for the experienced driver starting a green horse.

Open level is aimed at the more experienced driver who may have previously competed (at any level) in a Combined Driving Event or Driving Trial.

Dressage Tests are modified from the ADS standard tests. These will be mailed upon request.

Novice: modified Training level test.
Open: modified Preliminary/Intermediate level test

Hazards

This consists of 2 "hazards" on either end of the arena with start/stop located between. The competitor will drive each hazard twice (H1, then H2, then H1 again and H2 again), pausing between each for timers to be reset. Management reserves the right to renumber the gates before the second round, and if so, will allow time for competitors to re-walk the hazards.

Novice entries to trot only.
Open level entries may canter.

Cones

Novice: 50 cm clearance. Novice entries to trot only.
Open: 30 cm clearance. Canter allowed.

Navigators

Grooms/navigators are not required except for Pairs. A navigator is recommended for everyone in Hazards. “Gators” may ride with more than one entry as scheduling allows. Drivers may also be gators.
